Joy among recipients as 2021 Book Distribution nears completion

MONTEGO BAY, JAMAICA, December 20, 2021: Books4Kids Jamaica has completed the majority of its 2021 Book Distribution in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, handing out books and materials to more than 5,000 children with the help of sponsors and volunteers. Around 1,000 children will receive their book bags with the assistance of the Early Childhood Commission at the beginning of January 2022.

Through the Books4Kids Jamaica program, 4 and 5 year old children receive a book bag containing the popular 300-page BrainQuest Workbook, a reading book, a pack of crayons and a pencil, while 3 year-old children receive an ABC colouring book, crayons and a pencil.

US$40,000 (JMD 6.000.000) towards the purchase of books and materials for this year’s book distribution was raised through generous donations by The Honourable P.J. Patterson, Hanover Charities, Ministers Daryl & Anne-Marie Vaz and charity patron Ragni Trotta.

This marks Books4Kids Jamaica’s 12th annual distribution. To date, the initiative has distributed 290,000 books to 93,000 Kindergarten children in Jamaica. Local transportation company and sponsors Jamaica Tours Ltd. (JTL) again provided free transportation services, helping to bring books and materials to many schools across Western Jamaica.

Books4Kids Jamaica thanks the many sponsors who have come together to make this year’s book distribution a reality. This year’s books and materials were shipped to the island courtesy of sponsors Seaboard & Freight Jamaica Ltd. and UK based JP Shipping.

We also thank the Workman Publishing, Charities Authority of Jamaica, Fontana Pharmacy, Cazoumar Investments Ltd., Half Moon Hotel, Food for the Poor, The Jamaican Customs Department and Keith Thorpe Ltd. for their assistance.
